UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
 Receives the applications submitted for GMI reimbursement and checks eligibility, completeness, proper documentation and referral of Senior Medical Officer (SMO).
 Checks membership of staff in the GMIP scheme and records applications into the database established for this purpose.
 Maintains and updates the database and other GMIP records and files.
 Provides information and answers queries of SMOs, and Medical Approval Committee (MAC) concerning the submitted applications.
 Attends Medical Approval Committee meetings.
 Answers queries of staff and updates them on the status/progress of their applications
 Coordinates with the MoH medical stores and UNRWA’s central pharmacy on the availability of medications and keeps and updated list thereof.
 Prepares payment requests based on of approved applications for the signature of Head Field Human Resources Office.
 Prepares statistics and progress reports of received, approved, rejected applications and payments processed.
 Review the used forms and suggests amendments if necessary.
 Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
 A post secondary course of at least 2 years duration in Medical Secretary, Hospital Administration or related filed.
 Minimum of 2 years experience in administering health insurance, medical supplies or related discipline.
 Good command of English and Arabic.
 Proven Communication Skills.
 Ability to operate standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access)
 Ability to work under pressure and for long hours.


CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

 Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $864.40; plus a currency adjustment factor (current rate 13%).
 Contract Duration: Six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
 Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
 A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment.
EQUIVALENCY Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered ASSESSMENT METHOD

With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position. The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without re-advertising the vacancy.
